Excellent Cases of Social Responsibility among Chinese Private Enterprises | Tongwei Group Innovatively Builds Green Agriculture and Clean Energy Industries Guided by the "Dual Carbon" Goals
2026-01-04

Recently, the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the 13th All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce was held in Changsha, Hunan. During the meeting, the "Excellent Cases of Social Responsibility among Chinese Private Enterprises (2025)" list was released, selecting 60 exemplary practical cases. Tongwei Group successfully made the list with its case titled "Innovatively Building Green Agriculture and Clean Energy Industries Guided by the 'Dual Carbon' Goals".

Tongwei Group is a large multinational conglomerate deeply engaged in green agriculture and green energy. It currently has nearly 400 subsidiaries and branches across China and overseas regions, with over 60,000 employees. It has achieved global leadership in aquatic feed, high-purity crystalline silicon, and high-efficiency solar cells. For three consecutive years, Tongwei has been listed on the Fortune Global 500 as a leading enterprise in the global photovoltaic and aquaculture industries. In the new energy sector, Tongwei Group has become a vertically integrated photovoltaic enterprise, encompassing upstream high-purity crystalline silicon production, midstream high-efficiency solar cell and module manufacturing, and downstream PV power plant construction and operation, forming a complete photovoltaic new energy industry chain with independent intellectual property rights.

Advancing Towards "Zero Carbon"

Technological Innovation Reshapes the Path of Green Industry

Centered on the national "dual carbon" goals, Tongwei Group has systematically integrated green and low-carbon concepts into its corporate development strategy. It has set development targets to achieve carbon neutrality at the operational level by 2030 and carbon neutrality across the entire value chain no later than 2050. It has established an action framework covering "Zero-Carbon Operations—Zero-Carbon Value Chain—Zero-Carbon Products". In 2024, the company's overall electrification rate exceeded 95%, and the proportion of renewable energy electricity usage reached 64.01%, demonstrating continuous effectiveness in its green transformation.

In the photovoltaic sector, TW Solar's cumulative global shipments of PV cells have exceeded 300GW. Annually, it can generate 435.8 billion kWh of clean electricity, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 286.12 million tons per year, saving about 131.397 million tons of standard coal annually, equivalent to planting forests on about 1.5666 million hectares of land or planting approximately 2.86 billion trees.

Based on its technological advantages, the company pioneered the "Fishery & PV Integration" development model globally, combining PV power generation with aquaculture. It has developed 56 such bases, with a cumulative installed capacity of 4.79GW. Taking the Jiangsu Longpao Base as an example, the project generates an average of 20 million kWh of electricity annually, while simultaneously producing 150,000 kilograms of hairy crabs through underwater farming. It achieves "power generation above, fish farming below," effectively enhancing comprehensive land use efficiency, promoting local rural tourism like "agritainment," and forming a sustainable path where agriculture and new energy synergize for increased benefits. The Fishery & PV Integration power stations both "reduce carbon" for industry and "add green" to development, realizing the upgrade and transformation of agricultural industrialization, supporting local clean energy production and consumption, and contributing tangible strength to rural revitalization.

In terms of sustainable development management, Tongwei continuously improves its internal governance system. On November 17, 2024, the Tongwei Co., Ltd.'s Sustainable Development Integrated Management Platform project officially passed acceptance, achieving the goal set at its inception to "establish a professional carbon management platform and promote internal energy and carbon management." It became the industry's first enterprise sustainable performance management platform. The platform enables functions like templated carbon accounting and task-based carbon inventories, managing 33 carbon footprint projects, 6 carbon reduction projects, 1 carbon credit project, and 347 green electricity and certificate trading projects.

From Classroom to Community

Integrating Philanthropy into Daily Operations

While driving the green upgrade of its industries, Tongwei always integrates social responsibility into its corporate development. In 2024, through various means such as volunteer services, educational donations, and philanthropic partnerships, the Group continued to participate in community building and social governance.

Subsidiaries of Tongwei Group carried out volunteer service activities. In April 2024, the Tonghe New Energy volunteer service team conducted the "Salute to Workers, Care for Sanitation Workers" activity, distributing charity supplies. In June 2024, TW Solar Pengshan Company organized a "Social Practice in Environmental Protection" activity, where its Party branch involved primary school students in wastewater treatment experiments to learn about environmental protection.

In the field of educational philanthropy, Tongwei Group participated in donating to launch the "Tongwei Sunshine Aid Program" in Daofu County, consistently improving schooling conditions in high-altitude areas over the years. By donating teaching facilities and improving campus infrastructure, it created a better learning environment for local students. Furthermore, as a key co-organizer, it supported the "2024 Sichuan Province University Student Management Consulting Challenge," fostering young talent and promoting industry-academia-research collaboration.

Empowering Development with Light

Synergistically Advancing Support and Ecology

Leveraging its advantages in the photovoltaic industry, Tongwei was among the first in China to propose "Targeted PV Poverty Alleviation," donating 50 million RMB to establish the "Siyuan · Sunshine Plan." It built PV power stations in Sichuan, Xinjiang, Hebei, and other regions, benefiting over 100,000 people and shifting support from a "blood transfusion" model to a "blood-making" one.

Tongwei Group fully utilized its management and technical expertise in photovoltaics, actively cooperating with environmental organizations. It ventured four times into the uninhabited areas of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, donating over 100 kW of off-grid PV power generation systems to the Qinghai-Tibet Green Stations, the Yangtze River Source Water Ecological Protection Station, and the Sichuan-Tibet Green Stations. This solved electricity challenges in the high-cold, high-altitude regions of the plateau, contributing significantly to China's ecological and environmental protection.

In disaster relief and public health, the company maintained a rapid response capability. It donated RMB 12 million after the Wenchuan earthquake and RMB 50 million after the Luding earthquake. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it donated RMB 10 million and initiated the "Angel Nutrition Care Program," continuously supporting basic medical security and public health initiatives.

Practical Achievements

From concept to action, a series of responsible practices are continuously translated into quantifiable, perceptible development achievements. Tongwei Group has received awards including the 2024 "National Science and Technology Progress Award," the 13th BRICS Value List 2024 Annual ESG Corporate Social Responsibility Award, and the 2024 ESG Exemplary Enterprise Best ESG Practice Award of the Guancha.cn.

The company's social support initiatives yielded substantial results. Through educational donations, environmental science outreach, and volunteer services in 2024, it reached over 100,000 disadvantaged individuals, fostering a harmonious community ecology. The co-organized management consulting challenge attracted nearly 500 students from over 30 universities, enhancing societal awareness of the ESG field.

Regarding environmental benefits, compared to 2023, the company's emissions of waste gas, wastewater, and solid waste decreased by 27.97%, 33.96%, and 19.98% respectively. The circulating water utilization rate reached about 98%. Currently, eight of its production bases have been rated as "National Green Factories."
