Is your power plant caught in "shade panic," fearing loss of power generation, the shutdown of entire strings, or even fires? Can a small patch of shade really devastate an entire power plant?

The answer is no need to panic. By meeting the two basic needs of a power plant—reasonable design and regular operation and maintenance—you can free it from the troubles caused by shade.

The seemingly ever-present shade, in essence, has only two sources: fixed and occasional. Fixed shading is often avoided early in the design phase, while occasional shading stems from environmental factors, such as bird droppings and the occasional falling leaves that attempt to settle on the surface of the modules.

Since these are occasional factors, their occurrence rate is the key factor affecting the power generation of the power plant.

Through operational and maintenance inspections of over 30 PV power plants with a total capacity of more than 200 megawatts, we found that the potential capacity loss caused by occasional shading on the surface of the power plants accounts for only 0.07% of the total inspection volume. The occurrence rate is extremely low, and with the cleaning and maintenance efforts by the owners, these uninvited guests are swept away, unable to cause long-term impacts.

Of course, in practice, we also find that a very small number of projects choose to tackle challenges head-on in order to maximize installed capacity.
