The BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest, a flagship event promoting the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution, has been held annually from 2020 to 2024, fostering a positive environment for innovation cooperation and talent cultivation within the partnership. This year's theme was "Unleashing the Potential of BRICS Cooperation to Achieve Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization". The Energy Electronics Industry Track aims to identify innovative products, applications, and solutions suitable for the energy transition in BRICS countries, exchange innovative ideas and standards, and further consolidate the consensus among BRICS countries on jointly developing the new energy industry.
Launched in June, the trails attracted over 200 submissions from BRICS and "BRICS+" enterprises and research institutions across frontier fields like PV materials, sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and photovoltaic hydrogen production. Sixty-eight participating projects advanced to the selection competition. The judges evaluated the projects based on innovation, professionalism, maturity, social impact, and implementation, ultimately selecting 60 winning projects with outstanding innovation capabilities, significant application effects, and broad market prospects. Tongwei's project was awarded first prize and qualified for the finals in Xiamen, Fujian, in September.
Tongwei's innovative project awarded first prize
For 43 years, Tongwei has consistently regarded technological research and development as the core driver of its development. In 2018, Tongwei began researching and developing new-generation heterojunction solar cell technology. In 2021, it built the first GW-level HJT production line in China, targeting industrialization and initiating the industry's first 210 half-cell HJT project research, completing the industry's first bifacial microcrystalline development, and forming an industry-leading GW-scale copper interconnection solution. Through the integrated development of heterojunction cell module technology, Tongwei's core technologies have continuously expanded, and its independently developed THC 210 high-efficiency modules have broken the heterojunction module record for the eleventh time.
Currently, Tongwei is advancing on multiple mainstream technology routes, including TOPCon, heterojunction, BC, and perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem cells, building a full R&D cycle ecosystem for photovoltaic products that integrates basic research, concept verification, pilot services, base mass production application promotion, inspection and testing, and outdoor demonstration power stations. The company is committed to accelerating the transformation of photovoltaic scientific and technological achievements, promoting the iterative update of new-generation product technologies, and actively deepening international cooperation with BRICS countries and other emerging markets to accelerate the green transformation of the global energy structure.
