On July 3, the China Datang Derong High-Altitude PV Outdoor Demonstration Base, a high-altitude PV demonstration plant jointly developed by Datang Sichuan Power Generation Co., Ltd. and Tongwei, was officially inaugurated in Derong County, Ganzi Prefecture. The completion of this plant fills the gap in systematic empirical data for PV modules in extreme cold and high-altitude regions, providing a critical reference for PV technology applications in harsh environments.

At the ceremony, He Guoqin, Director of the Engineering Construction Department of Datang Sichuan Power Generation Co., Ltd., Wang Yinghong, Deputy General Manager of Datang Xiangcheng Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., Zhou Gang, General Manager of the Solar Energy Division of China General Certification Center Co., Ltd. (CGC), and Yu Xin, Head of the Southwest Region of Distributed PV at Tongwei Co., Ltd.'s PV Business Department, jointly unveiled the plant.

In his speech, He Guoqin acknowledged Tongwei's strengths in PV technology and equipment R&D, while highlighting Datang's extensive experience in plateau project construction and operation. He stated that through deep integration, both parties successfully overcame the challenges of extreme environments such as low temperature, low oxygen, and strong radiation, improved the design standards for plateau photovoltaics, and formed a "Datang & Tongwei Solution" that can be promoted. In the future, both parties will use this as a basis to jointly explore demonstration projects such as "wind-solar-hydro-storage integration" and "source-grid-load-storage synergy."

Wang Yinghong praised the responsiveness, quality control capabilities, and collaborative spirit of all parties involved in the project. He noted that this demonstration project represents both an exploration of technological innovation and a vital platform for deepening cooperation and shared development, expressing hope for a closer, more efficient, and sustainable strategic partnership with Tongwei.

Yu Xin expressed gratitude to Datang Sichuan for its long-term support and to CGC for its professional guidance. He emphasized that the project continues the strategic partnership between the two parties, centered on "mutual trust in technology and shared resources." Tongwei looks forward to further collaboration with Datang in developing clean energy bases in western China, delivering products with higher reliability and stronger power generation capabilities.

The project was completed in just six months from inception, with Tongwei Co., Ltd.'s PV Technology Department team finishing the main construction in only 15 days. The demonstration plant adheres to rigorous "11 Identical" standards (identical panels, tilt angles, spacing, data collection, etc.), enabling precise quantification of performance differences among various technologies in extreme cold and high-altitude environments, as well as exploration of power generation gains and degradation characteristics of different materials and processes in plateau conditions. The systematic empirical data generated will provide critical insights for the sector to optimize module design and reduce LCOE.

The inauguration of the Derong High-Altitude PV Demonstration Base marks a new phase in China's PV industry's exploration of extreme-environment technologies, laying a solid technical and data foundation for the large-scale development of clean energy in high-altitude regions worldwide.
