Energy Figures | Global PV Installations Will Surpass Coal Power in 2025!
2025-01-29

In the era of global energy transition, the PV industry is witnessing substantial expansion, with the scale of global PV installations on an upward trajectory. The International Solar Energy Society forecasts that by the close of 2025, the cumulative installed capacity of global PV power generation will surpass that of coal-fired power, thus rendering it the world's largest installed power source.

As a pivotal vanguard and impetus in the global endeavor of energy transition and climate change mitigation, China, under the guidance of its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality objectives, has accomplished remarkable progress in renewable energy. A set of figures will vividly depict the most recent “performance report” of China's renewable energy sector.

Significant Energy

2TW

The Global Solar Council recently declared that by the conclusion of 2024, the cumulative installed capacity of global PV power generation is set to exceed 2TW. It took a span of 68 years to achieve the first terawatt, yet it took merely two years to reach the second terawatt. This remarkable progression underscores the ascendance of PV as a pivotal energy source, fueling expectations for the continued expansion of the global installed capacity of PV power generation in the future.

New Installed Capacity

596GW

Industry-tracking organization Trendforce forecasts that in 2025, global PV power generation will witness an additional installed capacity of 596GW, signifying a year-on-year growth rate of 6%. It is projected that in 2025, China's new installed capacity of PV power generation will reach 265GW, accounting for over 40% of the global installations in that year.

Exceeding RMB 200 Billion

 for Four Consecutive Years

As per the data from the General Administration of Customs, in 2024, China's wind turbine exports increased by 71.9%; exports of PV products exceeded RMB 200 billion for four consecutive years; and lithium-battery exports reached a record high of 3.91 billion units. China's green products not only bolster the global supply but also make substantial contributions to the global efforts in combating climate change and achieving green and low-carbon transition.

12 Million Vehicles

to Lead the World

In the latest automotive industry data for 2024, released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the production and sales of new energy vehicles both exceeded 12 million units, enabling China to maintain its leading global position for the tenth year consecutively.

New Energy Storage

131.3GW

Based on data from CNESA, 26 provincial/municipal administrative regions across China have set new energy storage installation targets for the end of 2025, with a combined total capacity reaching 86.6GW. It is optimistically anticipated that in 2025, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage in China will hit 131.3GW.
