August, 9, standing committee member of the CPPCC and board chairman of Tongwei group Mr. Liu Hanyuan accepted interview by Chengdu TV and Chengdu Commercial daily about his view on the significance of new energy industry development for China’s peaceful rising.

Reviewing the domestic and international financial trend, Mr. Liu said, domestically, China is at the critical point of development. The net import of China’s coal reached 146 million tons in 2010, whereas the total coal consumption was 3 billion tons. In the next 15-20, if China’s GDP quadruples, the consumption of coal will be three times of it is today, reaching 10 billion tons. As to the fastest growing oil, which accounts for almost 20% in the energy structure, its total consumption reached 449 tons in 2010, among which 234 million was imported, almost 55% dependence on import. China will soon surpass the U.S. and become the biggest country in oil consumption. The huge rising coal consumption and high dependent on oil import makes energy supply and safety issue an extremely pressing matter.

Mr. Liu emphasized on greater investment and faster development of solar PV led new energy industry. This will not only contribute greatly to China’s sustainable development, but more importantly represents China as a responsible and moral power in the international political and economic arena. This in the end is fundamentally in line with China’s development strategy of peaceful rising.

Furthermore, Mr. Liu stressed on the resolution of developing new energy industry on the basis of China’s fundamental interest and the inherent requirements of China’s peaceful rising. Developing the new energy industry will address the problem of the world’s energy crisis and carbon dioxide emission. It is of great realistic and far-reaching strategic safety significance to China, whose resource per capita lags far behind the global average level. It is necessary to fully occupy the new round economic development high ground of PV solar industry.

During the interview, Mr. Liu also analyzed the cutting-age techniques of some international companies, and positively responded to the misunderstandings on PV solar industry’s over-capacity, high pollution and consumption.
