Thriving in both cell and module technologies, Tongwei TNC 3.0 sets a new benchmark for 210 module efficiency
2026-01-10

Against the backdrop of the PV sector's continuous pursuit of lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), centered around the topic of "how efficiency can beenhanced", Tongwei TNC 3.0 emerges as a beacon of innovation, focusing on how to systematically transform the technological breakthroughs at the cell and module levels into high power generation revenues that module products can stably achieve during mass-production and long-term operation. Utilizing cutting-edge PV technologies, Tongwei demonstrates how it achieves efficiency advancements.

Enhancing module efficiency

The only path to higher output per unit area

In the ongoing optimization of LCOE in the PV industry, module efficiency remains a pivotal variable determining the value of the system. For Tongwei TNC 3.0, module efficiency is not merely a competition over a single parameter but a systematic capability that requires repeated validation during large-scale manufacturing and long-term operation.

The most direct consequence of efficiency enhancement is the increased power generation capacity of individual modules. At the system level, this triggers a series of cascading effects—more electricity can be generated per unit area, overall system efficiency and returns are amplified, and investments in auxiliary materials such as supports and cables are reduced.

Returning to the core technology, the direction for efficiency enhancement is relatively clear: on the one hand, enabling modules to "capture" as much sunlight as possible; on the other hand, converting more of the received light into electricity; and simultaneously minimizing losses during current transmission. This relies not only on the continuous optimization of optical and electrical properties at the cell level but also on the systematic design of interconnection methods, encapsulation structures, and current paths at the module level.

Multi-slice module technology

The opportunity for large-scale development has arrived

From exploring "how efficiency can be enhanced" to "how efficiency can be sustainably utilized in systems," Tongwei's focus extends beyond a one-time performance leap to the stable release of efficiency in real-world scenarios.

In the continuous exploration of module efficiency, multi-slice module technology was once a significant avenue for enhancing output capacity per unit area. By reducing operating current and internal module losses, multi-slicing provides new space for efficiency enhancement. However, for multi-slicing to truly translate into efficiency and power advantages, the key lies not solely in "slicing itself". Issues such as production efficiency constraints, cutting-induced damage, and changes in module dimensions after slicing must be systematically addressed.

Since establishing the "Multi-slice High-efficiency Module R&D Project Department" in 2016, Tongwei has achieved numerous breakthroughs in the R&D, production, sales, and downstream applications of multi-slice modules. The Terra series multi-slice shingled modules are not only exported to high-end distributed markets in Europe but also widely applied in domestic large-span flexible support + fishery-PV complementary power stations, demonstrating Tongwei's profound industrial accumulation in multi-slice technology. By 2025, Tongwei has effectively repaired cutting-induced damage to high-efficiency cells during the module assembly process through TPE technology and addressed issues such as low CTM efficiency and non-standard module dimensions in traditional multi-slice modules by highly customizing wafer sizes, removing the final obstacle for downstream customers in adopting multi-slice modules.

360° three-dimensional passivation, unleashing the upper limit of efficiency

The TNC 3.0 G12R-66 model boasts a maximum power of 670W and a conversion efficiency of 24.8%; the TNC 3.0 G12-66 model reaches a maximum power of 770W with the same conversion efficiency, leading the sector in 210 module efficiency.

Multi-slice module technology must be paired with high-efficiency cell technology to achieve a synergistic effect of "1+1> 2" in efficiency enhancement. In TNC 3.0, efficiency enhancement does not rely solely on changes in module processes but is built upon a 360° three-dimensional passivation high-efficiency cell crafted through the collaborative integration of multiple key technologies. Tongwei systematically integrates five important cell technologies-TPE technology, light-hydrogen steady-state passivation technology, secondary sintering technology, ultra-fine grid line design, and Poly Tech-to tightly protect the TNC cells beneath a high-quality passivation layer in all directions, ensuring smooth carrier transport.

These technologies do not operate independently but are matched and coordinated around a common efficiency goal, enabling the cells to maintain stable and efficient performance after being sliced, encapsulated, and integrated into modules. This lays the foundation for enhancing the system-level efficiency of TNC 3.0.

Under the same G12 dimensions, conventional TOPCon locally passivated cells are more prone to edge damage after slicing, limiting their open-circuit voltage and efficiency release potential. Tongwei TNC 3.0 360° three-dimensional passivation cells achieve a cell efficiency of over 26.3% and a cell power of over 11.6W per piece, surpassing conventional TOPCon locally passivated cells. In the G12-66 model, the cell efficiency enhancement alone contributes over 26.4W in power gain to the TNC 3.0 module. Combined with multi-slicing and louver-style interconnection technology, the module achieves a maximum power of 770W, leading the industry in current mass-produced G12 module efficiency in the sector.

TNC 3.0 not only achieves improvements in laboratory parameters but also establishes a cell foundation more conducive to long-term stable output under real manufacturing and operating conditions, providing solid support for "powerful performance" at the module level.

The true efficiency revolution lies in stably realizing technological breakthroughs in every mass production run. This is precisely the answer delivered by Tongwei TNC 3.0: through systematic technological integration, efficiency enhancement becomes a verifiable and sustainable competitive advantage.
