In 2025, as one of the strategically emerging industries with international competitive advantages, the ice and fire of China's photovoltaic (PV) industry are still playing out, remaining a focal point for national, societal, and industrial attention. Recently, South Reviews—renowned as "China's Premier Political & Economic Journal"—conducted an exclusive interview with Liu Hanyuan, Deputy to the NPC, Vice Chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tongwei Group. Its upcoming cover story will feature a special report on China's PV industry, marking South Reviews's first-ever cover interview with a leading Chinese PV entrepreneur while deeply examining China's PV development underpinning the global energy revolution.

As China's circulation-leading political-economic magazine since its 1985 inception, South Reviews has earned its reputation as "China's Premier Political & Economic Journal" through incisive analysis and comprehensive coverage. Recognized as "an authoritative window for observing China", the publication serves not only as a lens into China's societal richness but also as a key perspective for understanding the nation's political-economic logic and macroeconomic trends. As the core brand and soul column of South Reviews, the cover story focuses on profound themes such as global development trends, domestic economic and social development changes, and future trends in public policy, having interviewed Nobel laureates in economics, leaders of the technological revolution, and innovators in social governance.
Currently, under the guidance of the global "dual carbon" goals, energy transition has become a global consensus, and China emerges as the undisputed frontrunner. Data released by the National Energy Administration shows that as of the end of May, China's PV power generation installed capacity exceeded 1 billion kilowatts, reaching 1.08 billion kilowatts, equivalent to the total installed capacity of about 48 Three Gorges power stations. The rapid growth of PV installed capacity has strongly promoted the proportion of new energy and renewable energy power generation in China. The installed capacity of 1 billion kilowatts of PV not only means a huge volume of clean electricity but also gives rise to a complete and internationally competitive photovoltaic industrial chain.
Concurrently, China's PV sector navigates new cyclical adjustments and intensifying global competition, facing fresh opportunities and challenges.
Against this backdrop, South Reviews's cover story turns its gaze to this strategically vital industry possessing rare international competitiveness. As a witness and participant in the ups and downs of China's photovoltaic industry over the past 20 years, and a successful survivor through numerous cycles, Tongwei has become an excellent example of the development of Chinese enterprises over the past 43 years in the eyes of South Reviews.
This time, South Reviews's reporters went to Chengdu for an in-depth interview with Chairman Liu Hanyuan, analyzing from global trends, national strategies, industry development, and entrepreneurial wisdom. Through three in-depth articles, the report comprehensively interprets China's carbon neutrality actions, the transformation of China's PV, and the development inspiration of Chinese PV enterprises represented by Tongwei "growing from within."
Looking back at the 20 years of development of China's photovoltaic industry, it has experienced many ups and downs, which can be described as magnificent and arduous. From the rapid rise of the first golden age to the re-emergence after multiple reshuffles, China's PV industry has gone through several ups and downs, but it has always remained at the center of the global stage. Behind this performance is the unremitting struggle of generations of Chinese PV enterprises, as well as the strategic determination, responsibility, and mission of Chinese PV entrepreneurs. The full feature will debut in the Issue No.15 of South Reviews in July 2025.
