At TW Solar's pioneering 5G-enabled industrial park—an industry-first in the global PV sector, located in Jintang County, Chengdu—intelligent production lines are running at full capacity. High-efficiency heterojunction modules are being rolled out continuously. Compared with traditional solar cell production lines, these cutting-edge systems reduce labor costs by approximately 62%, lower energy consumption by 30%, and boost production efficiency by 161%, exemplifying the robust momentum of Chengdu's advanced energy industry.


Driven by the high-quality development of the national-level Chengdu–Deyang High-End Energy Equipment Cluster and the "Green Hydrogen Capital" initiative, Chengdu has established three fully integrated sub-industrial chains: hydrogen energy chain, encompassing the entire cycle from production, storage, and transportation to refueling and end-use; PV chain, covering wafer slicing, solar cells, auxiliary components, module assembly, and power generation systems; and lithium battery chain, spanning lithium salt materials, core components, lithium batteries, battery management and control systems, and full-cycle recycling. A diversified industrial layout has taken shape, with core hubs in Jintang County, Pidu District, and Qionglai City, supported by collaborative zones in Wuhou District, Xinjin District, and beyond.


In 2024, Chengdu's advanced energy industry chain experienced explosive growth. The total revenue of enterprises above the designated size surpassed RMB 140 billion, ranking 8th nationwide in industrial agglomeration strength. Three industry leaders—Tongwei Co., Ltd., CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited, and B&M Science and Technology Co., Ltd., each with revenues exceeding RMB 10 billion, are spearheading this development. The sector now includes 515 enterprises above the designated size, forming a comprehensive ecosystem spanning PV, lithium batteries, and hydrogen energy.

Innovative breakthroughs

Globally pioneering technologies lead the transformation

The core competitiveness of Chengdu's advanced energy industry lies in its unwavering commitment to technological innovation. A series of breakthrough achievements clearly demonstrates the city's strength in technological innovation:


Chengdu Tianma Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. successfully developed offshore wind power bearings that have broken long-standing foreign monopolies.


Tongwei Co., Ltd.'s heterojunction modules have set new global efficiency records nine times consecutively.


An industry-leading high-power hydrogen fuel cell system, co-developed by Rongchuang Xinneng and Southwest Jiaotong University, now powers the nation's first commercial hydrogen-powered locomotive.


Dongfang Hydrogen Energy, in collaboration with Academician Xie Heping's team, built the world's first offshore wind power platform capable of direct seawater electrolysis for hydrogen production, eliminating the need for desalination.


In parallel with these achievements, Chengdu continues to enhance its platform construction. The National Technology Innovation Center for Hydrogen Storage, Transportation, Refueling, and Filling Equipment has been officially approved for construction. The Tongwei Pilot Platform for Advanced PV Devices has been included in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's preliminary list of key national pilot platforms. Chengdu has already established 21 high-level innovation platforms, including the National Key Laboratory for Nuclear Reactor System Design Technology, providing solid support for sustained breakthroughs in advanced energy technologies.

Green intelligent manufacturing creates a new benchmark for the industry

Driven by China's "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goals, Chengdu's advanced energy industry is rapidly transforming toward greater intelligence, sustainability, and digitalization, ushering in a new era of high-quality development.


TW Solar's Jintang Base has built the world's first 5G-enabled smart park in the PV industry, setting a global precedent. Both Chuan Kai Electric Co., Ltd. and TW Solar (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. have been named in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's list of "Excellent-Level Smart Factories", actively advancing intelligent transformation and digital upgrading.


Chengdu Xinjin Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited has become CATL's fourth carbon-neutral factory; Chengdu B&M Science and Technology Co., Ltd. has established the world's first carbon-neutral cathode materials production facility; over 10 companies, including CNBM (Chengdu) Optoelectronic Materials Co., Ltd. and Chengdu Molo Electric Co., Ltd., have been recognized as national and provincial green manufacturing demonstration units, further propelling green and low-carbon industrial transformation.


Meanwhile, the Dongfang Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park has attracted upstream and downstream enterprises such as Yantai Dongde Industrial Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment Co., Ltd., forming a complete hydrogen energy cluster encompassing fuel cell R&D, hydrogen production, storage, refueling, and comprehensive application. The benefits of industrial agglomeration are becoming increasingly evident.

Projects are the lifeblood of industrial development. Chengdu has consistently prioritized the construction of major projects as a key driver in advancing its advanced energy industry. Embracing the concept of "building and filling the park" to cultivate the "treasures within the park", the city is laying a solid foundation for long-term, high-quality, and sustainable growth.


Completing the industrial chain

Focusing on flagship industrialization projects such as SinoHytec and Tongwei, Chengdu has successfully attracted key supporting enterprises, including Shanghai SinoFuelCell and CSUN. These additions fill critical gaps in areas such as fuel cell stacks and PV thermal field systems, making the city's advanced energy industrial chain more comprehensive and resilient.


Strengthening the industrial chain

Construction has commenced on Phase II of the Qingtao Energy Solid-State Battery Storage Base, which will significantly enhance Chengdu's capabilities in solid-state battery manufacturing. Phase I of the Dongfang Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park has been completed and is now in operation, with core components like membrane electrodes entering production, bolstering the core competitiveness of the hydrogen energy industry chain.


In 2025, Chengdu's advanced energy industry chain is set to attract five new major projects, including the Innoreagen Hydrogen Fuel Cell Core Components Project and the Sijida PV Mounting Bracket Project, with a combined investment of RMB 13 billion. Additionally, the city will accelerate the construction of 48 major projects, each valued at over RMB 100 million, such as the AEME Smart Energy Equipment Project and Phase I of the CALB Project, totaling RMB 13.6 billion in investment.


The steady settlement and construction of these key projects will inject powerful momentum into Chengdu's advanced energy sector.

Chengdu continues to advance the "Investigate, Solve, Optimize, Promote" initiative, intensifying efforts to cultivate and support enterprises. In recent years, Chengdu's advanced energy industry chain has cultivated a robust enterprise ecosystem, comprising eight provincial-level leading enterprises in the chain such as TGOOD and the Nuclear Power Institute of China, ten publicly listed companies, 195 recognized firms, including two national manufacturing champions, 52 nationally designated SRDI "Little Giant" enterprises, and 141 SRDI SMEs, as well as 178 high-tech enterprises.


This enterprise network extends across the entire industrial chain. The network includes industry-leading enterprises that drive development across the sector, "hidden champions" that excel in niche markets with world-class expertise, and a dynamic group of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises. It has formed a sound development pattern where "large enterprises lead and small and medium-sized enterprises collaborate", providing a continuous stream of vitality for the sustained growth of Chengdu's advanced energy industry.

Deepening market expansion

Entering the global competitive arena

While solidifying its presence in the domestic market, Chengdu's advanced energy enterprises are actively expanding overseas, participating in global competition, and elevating the "Made in Chengdu" brand on the international stage.


TW Solar has ranked No. 1 globally in cell shipments for eight consecutive years, maintaining a dominant position in the global PV market. B&M Science and Technology Co., Ltd. has made deep inroads into the South Korean market, achieving overseas sales of RMB 5.2 billion in 2024, setting a benchmark for the export success of Chengdu's advanced energy enterprises. The JOUAV's hydrogen fuel cell drone has been successfully commercialized, securing its first international order from South Korea and opening new frontiers for hydrogen energy applications. The "Made in Chengdu" hydrogen refueling machine by Houpu Clean Energy Group Co., Ltd. served the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, marking a milestone on a global stage and reinforcing Chengdu's presence in the international hydrogen energy supply chain. Chengdu Tecloman Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. participated in Intersolar Europe—the world's most influential solar exhibition in Munich, Germany—where it signed multiple strategic cooperation agreements with key customers in Germany and Eastern Europe.


With strong joint efforts from both the government and enterprises, Chengdu is accelerating its global expansion strategy. By supporting new energy companies to expand beyond Sichuan and onto the world stage, the city continues to consolidate and enhance its international competitiveness, making its advanced energy sector shine even more brightly globally.


From industrial chain enhancement to technological breakthroughs, from transformation and upgrading to project construction, from enterprise incubation to global market expansion, Chengdu's advanced energy industry is steadily advancing toward the goal of an RMB-trillion industrial ecosystem, with an all-encompassing, high-quality development trajectory.
