On April 17, CCTV-13's news channel broadcast a special report titled "Q1 Economic Observation: Seeing New Trends" on the program "Morning News." Under the theme of "Green and New: New Power System Construction Accelerates," the report revealed new achievements in China's new power system construction against the backdrop of global energy security. Tongwei Global Innovation R&D Center was highlighted by CCTV, showcasing its photovoltaic technological innovation strength and helping to accelerate the construction of the new power system.
The CCTV report pointed out that as the situation in the Middle East continues to escalate, the shipping blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has triggered a sharp surge in international oil and natural gas prices, becoming a major concern for many countries. However, while the world is anxious about energy security, China has set a completely different pace. In the first quarter of this year, China's total grid investment exceeded 160 billion yuan, equivalent to more than 1.8 billion yuan being invested in new grid construction daily. In January and February, the national newly installed power generation capacity exceeded 65 gigawatts, with new energy accounting for nearly 70% of the new installations, making it the absolute growth driver. Behind these figures is the fact that China is accelerating the construction of a new power system.

Dr. Xing Guoqiang, Chief Technology Officer of Tongwei Solar, being interviewed by CCTV reporters
Sichuan's "15th Five-Year Plan" proposes that the province's new energy installed capacity will increase from 32 gigawatts to over 82 gigawatts. This is not only to meet production and living electricity demand but also to press the acceleration button for the development of the new energy industry. Under CCTV's camera, at Tongwei Global Innovation R&D Center, multiple pilot production lines integrating the latest photovoltaic cell technology are operating busily. Researchers are aiming precisely at the future development direction of photovoltaic technology.
In an interview with CCTV reporters, Dr. Xing Guoqiang, Chief Technology Officer of Tongwei Solar, stated that the "15th Five-Year Plan" has set clear development goals for new energy, representing a huge growth space. Tongwei will continue to increase R&D efforts to enable photovoltaics to be applied on water, in deserts/Gobi/barren lands, and even in space, to meet the needs of future application markets.

R&D workshop at Tongwei Global Innovation R&D Center
As the first stop of Premier Li Qiang's research tour in Sichuan, Tongwei Global Innovation R&D Center has achieved systematic breakthroughs in photovoltaic technology R&D and innovation platform construction: In 2025, its independently developed TNC modules refreshed power records 5 times in a row, while THC modules refreshed the world record for heterojunction module power 9 times consecutively; it has built the industry's first HTBC third-cut pilot line, the first fully automatic tandem cell pilot line, and the first fully automatic megawatt-level perovskite-silicon tandem cell pilot line, continuously promoting the mass production R&D and verification of related technologies and accelerating the mass production transformation process; N-type technologies such as TOPCon, BC, and HJT have achieved periodic breakthroughs in industrialization, while in cutting-edge areas like perovskite/silicon tandem cells, laboratory efficiency has repeatedly reached new heights and key technology reserves have been continuously deepened.1. Relying on the advanced photovoltaic device pilot platform of the Global Innovation R&D Center, it was successfully approved as one of the first batch of national-level manufacturing pilot platforms, becoming the first enterprise in the industry and the first in Sichuan Province to receive this honor.
Looking to the future, Tongwei will continue to focus on internal strength, driving iterative innovation in photovoltaic technology with solid R&D innovation and stable industrialization capabilities, and continuously contributing "Tongwei's strength" to promoting China's new power system construction and solidifying the cornerstone of energy security.
