On February 26-27, the "Seminar on the Review of PV Sector Development in 2024 and the Outlook for 2025", hosted by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, was held in Beijing. The seminar aimed to analyze the development of the global PV industry chain in 2024 and forecast industry trends for 2025. Dr. Xing Guoqiang, Chief Technology Officer of Tongwei’s PV Division, was invited to attend the event and participated in the roundtable discussion at the 2025 PV Power Generation Project Techno-Economic Forum.
Dr. Xing Guoqiang participates in the roundtable discussion
During the roundtable discussion, Dr. Xing engaged with attendees on topics related to the hot issues in PV project development. When addressing the conflict between investment costs and quality requirements for PV power stations, Dr. Xing emphasized that this essentially reflects a trade-off between short-term investment economics and long-term reliability. He suggested that this balance could be achieved through continuous technological innovation, promoting cost reduction and efficiency enhancement, establishing a sound concept of total lifecycle costs, and integrating resources across the supply chain. Additionally, Dr. Xing pointed out that ensuring quality is a prerequisite for effective technological innovation and product development.
Currently, Tongwei has established a vertical integration from silicon materials and cell panels to modules and power stations, forming a closed-loop control of "technology-cost-quality." In the core module product segment, Tongwei's Global Innovation R&D Center has developed a series of core technologies, including TNC, THC, TBC, and perovskite/silicon tandem technologies, through effective resource investment and continuous innovation. The company also utilizes the industry's most well-rounded PV testing center to ensure product quality, thereby enhancing the reliability of high-efficiency modules and contributing significantly to the cost balance and high-quality development of PV power stations.
Dr. Xing Guoqiang shares insights on hot topics
In discussing the empirical performance and trends of PV technology, Dr. Xing Guoqiang indicated that PV technology is undergoing a transition from "single-point breakthroughs" to "multi-dimensional disruptions". The technological pathways and product types exhibit characteristics of diversified competition amid the rapid iteration of PV industrialization. Empirical evidence can validate the true power generation characteristics of products. Through empirical data, it is possible to combine the real outdoor environment and scenarios to analyze the PANfile parameters such as the bifaciality, temperature coefficients, IAM, and low-light response against the targeted value objectives, and decompose the sources of the power generation and gains of the products. Tongwei consistently regards empirical research as the lifeline of development, using empirical data as the foundation for scientific conclusions.
Tongwei places significant emphasis on the empirical performance of its products, currently operating five self-built empirical power stations in Ding'an of Hainan, Dongxing of Guangxi, Aohan of Inner Mongolia, Liangshan of Sichuan, and Yancheng of Jiangsu, while also participating in eight third-party projects. Notably, the Tongwei Yancheng MW-level Empirical Base, located at the TW Solar Technology Yancheng Base, completed a full-capacity grid connection in December 2023 and has been operating successfully for over a year. This facility has undergone professional third-party authoritative certification, and encompassed various mounting forms and diversified system design solutions, with a wide range of empirical types, totaling 372 empirical comparison units. Eleven empirical consistency standards have been established, integrating into the design of empirical schemes, operational execution, and data analysis, all conducted with a science-based rigorous approach to thoroughly validate the performance and reliability of research and mass-produced products, providing primary data for product development and industrial application.
The development of technology knows no bounds, and innovative breakthroughs are limitless. Amid the waves of the PV sector, facing both opportunities and challenges, Tongwei consistently views technological innovation as the most powerful response, forging its development engine through science and technology. As the new chapter of 2025 unfolds, Tongwei will continue to leverage its Global Innovation R&D Center to deepen research and development, give full play to its strengths, and build momentum in achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement and promoting high-quality development, thus contributing to the development of the PV industry and the green environmental protection cause.
