Focus on PV and Energy Storage
In this energy revolution that shapes the fate of humanity, Tongwei is forging ahead with the power of "Intelligent Manufacturing in China", with the target at a broader future and a new horizon.
As the world focuses on the climate crisis and energy transition, China's new energy industry is reshaping the global energy landscape at an astonishing pace.
From PV power stations in deserts to "windmill forests" at sea, from new energy vehicles on the streets to energy storage batteries in millions of households, the green label of "Made in China" is becoming a driving force in the global energy revolution.
In this important and transformative wave of energy, Tongwei has emerged as a standout player.
Transitioning from aquatic feed to the PV sector was perceived by outsiders as a "risky" cross-industry adventure, given the apparent lack of direct connection between the two industries.
But time has proven that this was a well-targeted "energy revolution campaign".
Over the past two decades, Tongwei has deeply rooted itself in the PV field. It has gradually built a vertically integrated industrial layout—from upstream production of high-purity crystalline silicon, and midstream production of high-efficiency solar energy cells and modules, to the construction and operation of terminal PV power stations.
In 2005, China's polysilicon production accounted for only 0.3% of global PV cell silicon consumption, and core technologies were monopolized by European and American companies, leaving little room for China in the international market.
But Tongwei did not retreat; it pushed forward relentlessly.
Through its independently developed "Yongxiang Method," Tongwei successfully overcame technical challenges, achieving an astonishing purity level of 11N for key impurity elements. Moreover, it has amassed over 600 independent intellectual property patents.
Some of its products even meet the quality standards of electronic-grade semiconductor silicon materials, enabling the bulk export of electronic-grade polysilicon and showcasing the brilliance of "Intelligent Manufacturing in China" in the high-purity crystalline silicon sector.
By the end of 2023, Tongwei's annual sales of high-purity crystalline silicon reached 387,200 tons, a year-on-year increase of 50.79%, with a global market share exceeding 25%.
Today, China's polysilicon production capacity accounts for over 90% of the global market, fundamentally reshaping the international PV industry landscape.
In 2024, with the successful launch of the second phase of Tongwei's 200,000-ton high-purity crystalline silicon project in Yunnan, Tongwei's annual production capacity reached 650,000 tons, further solidifying its dominant position in the global market.
Tongwei has also achieved remarkable success in the solar cell sector. With production bases in Anhui, Shuangliu, Meishan, Jintang, and Pengshan, its annual production capacity has reached 90GW.
Over the years, Tongwei has consistently focused on technological innovation and product quality optimization.
With its continuous technological innovation and exceptional product quality, Tongwei has maintained its position as the world's largest solar cell manufacturer by production capacity, shipment volume, and profitability for seven consecutive years.
In the fiercely competitive PV market, this achievement is no small feat, fully demonstrating Tongwei's leading advantages in the solar cell sector.
In terms of the module business, Tongwei has also excelled. It successfully developed and mass-produced the G12 and G12R series of large-format module products. Notably, the 66-format product from the G12 series achieved a mass production power output exceeding 700W, maintaining a leading position in the sector for the same format and product type.
Tongwei's modules are exported to more than 40 countries and regions overseas to be widely used in various "PV+" scenarios such as household rooftops, industrial and commercial distributed and centralized large-scale power stations.
Tongwei's "Integration of Fishery and PV" project
What is particularly noteworthy is its pioneering "Integration of Fishery and PV" development model, which ingeniously combines aquaculture with PV power generation, achieving mutual benefits for both industries.
In 2023, Tongwei Group made its debut on the Fortune Global 500 list, ranking at 476th place. It became the first manufacturing enterprise in Sichuan listed in the Fortune Global 500 and also the first enterprise in the global PV industry to make it.
In 2024, Tongwei Group ranked on the list again, climbing to 467th place.
This accomplishment not only highlights Tongwei's strength but also serves as a powerful testament to the rapid development of China's PV sector.
As PV companies increasingly expand into international markets, Tongwei is leading the way.
In 2024, Tongwei exported its products to over 70 countries, with its module shipments consistently ranking among the top five globally. Even in Germany, a traditional PV powerhouse, Tongwei's market share exceeded 15%.
Tongwei has shipped TNC-G12 series modules to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, established a European branch in Frankfurt, Germany, signed a 100MW high-efficiency module annual framework agreement with Mexico's Solarever Group, and partnered with GPC to supply modules for PV projects in Hungary and Poland.
Tongwei is continuously expanding its global cooperation network.
Currently, Chinese PV products cover over 95% of the global market. Despite more than a decade of anti-dumping and countervailing measures by Europe and the United States, China's PV industry continues to surge ahead.
From following others, to walking side by side, and now to leading the way, China's PV industry is racing ahead of the world.
The story of Tongwei exemplifies the broader narrative of China's new energy industry.
Its success lies not only in its keen business acumen but also in elevating green transformation into a "technology for all" campaign and a "global win-win" movement.
As Liu Hanyuan, founder of Tongwei, stated, "In the context of carbon neutrality 30 years from now, over 50% or even 70% of China's and the world's energy will be provided by PV."
In this energy revolution that shapes the fate of humanity, Tongwei is forging ahead with the power of "Intelligent Manufacturing in China", with the target at a broader future and a new horizon.
