Chairman Liu Interviewed by Phoenix TV
July, 20, journalists from Phoenix TV made a special interview of Mr. Liu Hanyuan, Standing Committee member of the CPPCC, Standing Committee member of China Democratic National Construction Association, Board Chairman of Tongwei Group, and Mr. Liu Jiansheng, Energy Research Institute Director of Southwest University of Finance and Economics, at Tongwei headquarters about the book they wrote together -- Energy Revolution- Changing the 21st Century , which has received wide social recognition since its publication and sale.
Mr. Liu Hanyuan said, new energy industry is an emerging market which is of great significance to China’s and the world’s future economy. At the energy consumption rate of human beings, the world’s resources would be depleted in another 100 – 200 years. By comparative analysis of several common clean energies - biomass, hydropower, wind power, nuclear energy and solar energy in terms of their respective advantages, costs, conversion efficiency, energy distribution and utilization technology, it is concluded that solar energy is the most abundant, economical, clean and eco-friendly sustainable energy. We would like to do researches combining practices with theories, and look into the matter of human civilization progress and sustainable development with the perspectives of corporate mission, industry values, social responsibility, national morality and human survival.
As for the argument of “output value of wealth per unit land area”, Chairman Liu put forward brand-new ideas for development. If the overall conversion efficiency of PV station is 15%, at the standard radiation of light intensity of 1kw per mu per annum, it can generate 200,000 kwh of electricity, which equals to a value of RMB￥100,000 – 200,000 yuan. If the same land is used for growing crop, even if it sells 5,000 yuan/ton, the annual output is only 1,500 yuan. China’s western region enjoys abundant light. It is low in crop yields, but excellent for PV generation. Developing PV generation in this region will not only protect the local eco-system, but also bring high economic returns.
As for the industry prospect, Chairman Liu believes solar energy is the most abundant, economical, clean and eco-friendly sustainable energy. As long as we develop PV generation with efficient utilization, industry optimization and update, we can surpass the US in overall amount of wealth in this area. In addition, Mr. Liu also made in-depth and comprehensive elaboration on the misleading opinions of overcapacity, high consumption and high contamination.
